An affair is a sexual relationship that usually lasts more than one night where at least one of the lovers is committed to someone else.

An emotional affair excludes sexual intimacy but in some cases injures a committed relationship more than if it were a fling, a one night stand or just plain old casual sex.  Its a relationship where YOUR partner whether male or female has lots and lots of very intimate, although non sexual chats with their emotional other half about EVERYTHING

A one night stand is usually a one off sexual encounter where both or one of the parties involved had no intention of establishing a long term relationship.  But that's OK your partner will tell you one night stands, don't mean anything.  It's not like I love them.

Prostitution is any type of sexual activity exchanged for money.  Prostitutuion is often used as en excuse when the man doesn't want to feel any guilt for playing away but then of course there is the risk of STD's and other such things, not to mention the affect on your bank balance.

A Mistress is a female companion who usually has sexual relations with a man but is not married to him.  They may have an open relationship but not live together and the relationship may not always be secret except to the wife.  Usually the man provides for the Mistress financially by providing for her living allowances in some way.   The most damaging part of this type of relationship is the fact that YOU do not often know and your husband may have been "keeping" this other woman for years spending your families hard earned money on her.

A dominatrix on the other hand is used to describe a professionally dominant woman who engages in fantasy roleplay with male clients on exchange of money.  They may also go under the name of "Mistress".  Unlike normal relationships "older woman-younger man" relationships are far more common in dominant relationships. 

A fling is a relationship that is unlikely to last long term.  And may include such relationships such as sex buddies, friends with benefits, or a temporary relationship based on purely on hedonistic purposes such as swinging and including same sex relationships.  No guessing what the implications are here!
